Genres: Adult, Contemporary Romance, Fiction, Military, Romance, Suspense
Format Read: ARC
Dr. Carmen Rodrigues, CDC’s Outbreak Task Force director, is on the hunt for a killer–– an airborne virus spreading from Florida across the States, gaining traction with each passing moment. Although she’ll never forget her one night with sexy bodyguard John Dozer in Afghanistan, his protective nature is one distraction she doesn’t need right now.
Ex-Army Intelligence officer John Dozer will put his life on the line for beautiful, independent Carmen. Every. Time. Even when she pushes him away. And now, with her struggling to contain an outbreak likely triggered by domestic bio-terrorists, maybe even insiders at the CDC, she needs him more than ever. He lost her once. He’ll never let that happen again.
I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
“He’d fallen in love with her that day. And the next day…she’d run from him.”
This book doesn’t start slow and steady. You get thrown into this world immediately. I haven’t read the previous books and felt like maybe I was missing something which is my own fault. I would definitely suggest reading the earlier books before diving in.
This book is extremely well written. One major storyline is an airborne virus spreading at an extremely fast rate. All the terminology used and the amount of information given made it clear that Julie had definitely done her research. Although I found myself skipping over some of the fancy talk once or twice, I know a lot of readers who are going to love the amount of information given.
Carmen and John’s relationship was another major storyline. I love their bickering! There is also a power struggle throughout the entire book. John is an alpha male yet Carmen is an independent and stubborn doctor. Are they going to be able to overcome their differences — or should I say similarities?
“I’m scared I’ve changed too much, grown into someone you won’t want. I’m not that innocent, naive young woman who thought you could walk on water.”
I felt like it didn’t fully wrap up as much as I wanted it to. I wanted to know all the answers but I suspect there will be more answers in the next book!

Hey, I’m Bre! I have been pulling all nighters to read since I was in middle school, and nothing has changed since. My love of reading turned into a love for writing and I now have my dream job — being a writer. I also get to wear pajamas to work, which is a pretty nice perk.
I love Starbuck’s tea, organizing, the ocean, and buying too many purses and books. Is there such a thing as too many purses or books? I have two energetic toddlers at home so I mostly read to stay sane.
While I genuinely enjoy a variety of genres, I enjoy getting lost in the paranormal and fantasy world and nothing can melt my heart faster than a small town romance.
