[Bre’s Review]: Broken Knight by L.J. Shen

If you follow me you know that I love small town romances where the guy is at the right place at the right time and things always work out how they’re supposed to, and there’s always a happily ever after. I can read a sweet story all day long. 

But what I didn’t realize until I read this book is that I needed this broken story. I need to know that characters are flawed. I need to see that people do the wrong things at the wrong time. I needed to see that bad things do happen to good people. This story is raw, messy, and had my heart pounding for most of the book. And I needed it. 

“The sun will rise tomorrow. It always does. And don’t you dare live one day of your life without basking in its glory.”

I’ve read almost every one of LJ Shen’s books and know all about Luna. Well everything other people had to say about Luna. I absolutely loved getting inside Luna’s head and discovering what makes her tick. She grew even more in the book both with and without Knight and I almost felt privileged watching her flourish during this story.

“The only bad thing about Knight was it felt like he held a piece of my heart hostage.”

Knight is one of a kind for sure and he’s definitely Dean’s child — who is my favorite just in case anyone forgot. And Knight might be my favorite tothole so far but I’m not biased or anything. Knight is strong yet weak, sincere yet fake, and he has a sweet side I can’t stop thinking about. 

“For the first time in almost eighteen years, I knew Luna and I faced something I couldn’t fix. Something I didn’t want to fix.”

I was on an emotional rollercoaster while reading this book. I cried and I smiled. I was so close to being mad at LJ Shen for making me read this. But I survived and made it out the other side.

While I genuinely enjoy a variety of genres, I enjoy getting lost in the paranormal and fantasy world and nothing can melt my heart faster than a small town romance.
