My life is over.
I swore I would never work at the whiskey distillery with my last name on it, that I would never be a part of my father’s legacy. But when I graduated with my art degree and realized there were no jobs, the devil appeared, and I sold my soul, agreeing to work in the family business if he’d give me the art studio I’d always dreamed of.
It can’t be that bad, I thought.
Until I realized my new boss was Logan Becker.
The Becker brothers have a reputation for being trouble, and since I love trouble, it’s no surprise to me that I’m infatuated by that forbidden fruit the first day I walk into the distillery. That lean, whiskey-eyed, too-hot-for-his-own-good man hates me — and I can’t blame him. His family has been at war with mine for decades, and for good reason.
The Beckers and the Scooters are the Montagues and Capulets of Stratford, Tennessee.
But if he’s Romeo, and I’m Juliet? Well… we all know how that story ends — and for that reason, I tell myself to steer clear.
Because if my father finds out I’m falling for Logan Becker, my life actually will be over.
And Logan’s will be, too.
I received this book for free from Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
“…like the lotus flower born from the mud, we must embrace the darkest parts of ourselves to become our most beautiful selves.”
I am so in love with this book and already know that it will become a regular in my re-read pile.
This modern day Romeo and Juliet story pulled me in and convinced me to believe in fairy tales again. Every part of this book was perfect, even parts that had me doubting a happy ever after.
“Thank you for shattering the illusion I had of the mysterious Mallory Scooter. The veil has been lifted, along with the spell, and now I see you for exactly who you are.”
Without spoiling too much about Mallory, we had a love hate relationship throughout this book. Like Logan, I was excited about a girl who is different. Not the heroine who is beautiful, perfect, and always says the right thing at the right times. In the end, my girl came through and were now bffs, so it all worked out.
“He was my Romeo, and I his Juliet, and our families be damned—we were going to make it.”
Logan Becker is the perfect hero. A secret nerd who stands up for what’s right but can also be the bad boy. I loved every part of Logan!
“The oxygen she needed existed in my lungs, the shelter and protection she craved was provided by my hands, the care and understanding she’d been searching for, she found in my embrace.”
This was a beautiful story about a forbidden romance, about opposites attracting, and about making the hard choices.
“I wrinkled my nose. ‘Sounds messy.’ ‘Well, you did agree to let me be the mess in your life,’ she reminded me…Because what a beautiful mess she was.”
Hey, I’m Bre! I have been pulling all nighters to read since I was in middle school, and nothing has changed since. My love of reading turned into a love for writing and I now have my dream job — being a writer. I also get to wear pajamas to work, which is a pretty nice perk.
I love Starbuck’s tea, organizing, the ocean, and buying too many purses and books. Is there such a thing as too many purses or books? I have two energetic toddlers at home so I mostly read to stay sane.
While I genuinely enjoy a variety of genres, I enjoy getting lost in the paranormal and fantasy world and nothing can melt my heart faster than a small town romance.
