[Lisa’s Review:] Deity (Covenant #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Wow. I don’t even know where to start with this one. It’s one of my favorite books in this series, and my reread totally reminded me why. Also, this review contains spoilers for the first and second book in the series, Half-Blood, and Pure. Make sure you’re up to date before reading this review.

After the events at the New York Covenant, Alex is more restless than ever. With powerful people gunning for her ass and her future up in the air, the lines between enemies and friends get blurrier by the day. Add the war raging inside her head regarding her feelings for the man she loves but can’t have and her freaky connection to Seth, and you have the perfect storm. In Deity, we dive deeper into the world of the Hematoi and learn a bit more about the Apollyons’ history as well. But you will definitely end up with more questions too. Jen has the unique ability to answer some of your questions and simultaneously add another riddle to the “to-be-solved” list.

As for the romance in this one: it will leave you utterly speechless. If you thought Pure was heavy on the heart-wrenching moments, you’re in for a surprise. Deity packs one hell of a punch. I don’t think I ever had to fight the tears as often as in this one. I recommend not reading this one in public if you’re an emotional reader. I’m more in love with Aiden than ever, which gives you an idea of what I’m talking about here. As for Seth: there’s not much I can say about him without giving away too much, but let’s just say Grandma Pipieri strikes again. There’s a difference between need and love. And there are things even the Fates can’t see. 

The last chapters of this book will leave you reeling. If I didn’t already know how things turn out, I probably would have needed some valerian or a paper bag – holy mother of cliffhangers. So, let’s do the math here: the plot is well-paced, action-packed, and riddled with equal parts humor and emotion. Add a fantastic set of characters that you can’t help but connect to and a world so vivid in detail you feel like you’ve seen it with your own eyes. What do you get? You get a phenomenal book that goes on your to-be-read without question.
