When a scandalous murder shocks London high society, seventeen-year-old aspiring lawyer Lizzie Bennet seizes the opportunity to prove herself, despite the interference of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, the stern young heir to the prestigious firm Pemberley Associates.
Convinced the authorities have imprisoned the wrong person, Lizzie vows to solve the murder on her own. But as the case—and her feelings for Darcy—become more complicated, Lizzie discovers that her dream job could make her happy, but it might also get her killed.
Perfect for fans of the Lady Janies and Stalking Jack the Ripper, Pride and Premeditation is a clever retelling that weaves the iconic settings, characters, and romances of the eponymous literary classic into a thrilling and high-stakes whodunit.
I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
As a lover of both Pride and Prejudice and murder mysteries, I was excited when I heard about this book. The author does an excellent job of recreating a similar reading voice to that of Jane Austen and it was interesting how she adapted the familiar characters into this retelling. I always appreciate a strong female lead in a story, and Lizzie certainly fit the bill. I wish there had been more character development with Darcy, because the relationship between them seemed to happen quickly and come out of no where. The murder mystery presented in the story develops at a steady pace, but while I didn’t know who the killer was until later in the book, the motive felt overly complex to me.
I could definitely see the comparisons between this and the first book in the Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco, and anyone who enjoyed those would likely enjoy this one as well.
