When Evelyn Dasher crossed paths with Luc, she was thrown headfirst into the world of the Luxen—only to discover that she was already far more involved in their world than she ever suspected.
Because the Luxen aren’t the only ones with a hidden past. There’s a gap in Evie’s memory, lost months of her life and a lingering sense that something happened, something she can’t remember and nobody is willing to tell her. She needs to find out the truth about who she is—and who she was. But every answer she finds only brings up more questions.
Her search for the truth brings her ever closer to Luc, the Origin at the center of it all. He’s powerful, arrogant, inhumanly beautiful, extremely dangerous…and possibly in love with her. But even as Evie falls for him, she can’t help but wonder if his attraction is to her, or to the memory of a girl who no longer exists.
And all the while, a new threat looms: reports of a flu-like, fatal virus that the government insists is being spread by Luxen. A horrifying illness that changes whoever it touches, spreading panic across a country already at its breaking point.
#1 New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns to the world of the Lux with this steamy, shocking second installment of the Origin series that will leave readers reeling.

WARNING: SPOILERS OF THE DARKEST STAR IN THIS REVIEW. CHECK OUT MY TDS REVIEW.
After such a long wait, we’re finally back for more. And as always, Jennifer’s writing just flows and grips you, you feel everything she wants you to feel and more, and as much as you try to slow down, the words just keep sucking you in.
As if the first one didn’t have enough plot-twists… so much happens in this book. The story takes turns you never expected and every page surpasses the last one. There are so many reveals, so many answers, and many more questions. The story continues and not one of the pages loses your attention at any point.
Luc comes back with more pick-up lines, more funny t-shirts, more power, and badassery and more cute, beautiful moments for us. And we get so much more on Evie and her acceptance and discovery of who she really is.
Their love flows in every page and I am OBSESSED with their relationship, I LIVE for these love scenes, seriously. There’s so much hurt and pain, and fun and happiness and just SO MUCH LOVE between the two.
Their squad is back. We get more insight into the dynamic of Luc’s small group, and I loved it. They’re all so fun, and powerful and I love what every character brings to the table.
We also get much more of the OG crew that’s back on this group and seriously, I thought I missed these characters but I never knew I missed them THIS much. It was so good to be reunited with them again. I love getting insights into their lives and what they’re up to now.
Something I mentioned last time is how much I loved the way Jennifer portrayed the aftermath of the alien invasion in The Darkest Star. In this book, all those social and political problems continue and just get bigger and bigger. I found it so interesting how so many of these things parallel our world and really portray our own reality. There are so many powerful messages and statements hidden and made bigger for this sci-fi take of humanity.
I have so many fears, wants and yearnings for the future of Luc and Nadia’s story, I hope next year goes fast and that my mind doesn’t explode with what’s to come (not a lot of chances, I know.)
Asis is a Mexican girl whose life changed at the age of six when her father read the first chapter of Harry Potter to her. Ever since that night, the book world sucked her in and she’s never been seen amongst mortals again.
