“You have something I want. Something I’ll happily buy…or rent.”
As if my life doesn’t suck enough already, my insufferable new roommate, Miller MacAvoy, seems determined to make things weird. He watches me all the time, grinning at me like a beautiful idiot, eyes boring holes into me every time I turn my back on him.
It’s the last thing I need. Things haven’t been going well. College isn’t working out at all like I’d hoped. I’m drowning in debt, waiting tables every shift I can get, and falling behind on my studies.
Something’s got to give.
I can’t go on like this much longer.
Miller, being the out-of-touch rich boy he is, keeps offering to throw cash my way. Obviously, I’d rather die than accept charity from him.
Still, he watches and waits. Insisting again and again that I have something he wants to buy. It’s insane. I have nothing of value to sell. Absolutely nothing. My phone screen is cracked and my truck could easily be mistaken for scrap.
Wait.
No!
Surely not.
He can’t possibly be thinking that.
Can he?
I received this book for free from Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I am a big Jesse H. Reign fan. She does taboo very well. Rent: Paid in full was definitely taboo, and definitely done well.
I feel like before I get into the nitty gritty of why I literally LOVED this book, I do need to give a content warning. This book contains bullying off page, consensual non-consensual sex, bullying during sex and prostitution.
How this woman turned a character about a college student who literally pays his room mate for sexual favors, into the hero of this story is beyond me.
But Jesse Reign somehow did it. Not only was Miller absolutely propositioning his room mate with money for sex. He also turned out to be a wonderfully funny, observant and kind partner.
Ryan was so heart breaking and full of insecurities.
To quote Shrek “Ogres are like onions. Ogres have layers.”
He was just truly surviving his own life, not really living it and it was slowly eating him alive. Until Miller.
I actually think Miller and Ryan might be my favorite characters that Jesse has written to date.
The chemistry between them was just incredible. The banter was witty and fun. There was this push and pull between the two of them that was palpable from the first page all the way to the last.
They were each the perfect compliment to the other and it was a joy to read.
I enjoyed reading a book where the characters were honest and open with each other. It was a low angst sexy story with a ridiculous plot that really shouldn’t have worked.
But it did!
I even cried.
Like, a lot.
OOOOOF and also, the ending, the epilogue.
WON.DER.FUL.
Definitely worth the read.
Loved.
10/10
Emily is a coffee loving, cat snuggling, hairstylist and book-a-holic.
Having always been a voracious reader and devouring books at a breakneck speed, joining the bookish and blogging community seemed like a natural next step. She loves giving recommendations to friends and family and then very gently (and not forcefully at all) asking for their opinions after they complete each chapter.
Her reviews tend to be goofy, a little sweary, on the more impassioned side and maybe sometimes a little self deprecating.
Emily typically enjoys reading almost every genre, including (but not limited to) monster romance, literary fiction, rom-com, contemporary, LGBTQ+, low/urban fantasy, paranormal, dystopian, sci-fi, gothic romance or basically any book that will make her cry.
