Cinderella goes to the con in this fandom-fueled twist on the classic fairy tale.
Part romance, part love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom. Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck (and her dad’s old costume), Elle’s determined to win…unless her stepsisters get there first.
Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons—before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he’s ever wanted, but the Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake—until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise.
Ever since I read this book, I became uncapable of getting over it.
This is the most beautiful love letter to fandoms there could ever be. Hilarious, romantic, and very relatable.
It is the first book in the trilogy but it can absolutely be read on its own since it’s a standalone and it works very well as one. The writing is both simple and good, the pace is just right and the plot is familiar but unique. It’s a book you can’t stop reading because you just want more.
The characters are relatable, likeable, layered and realistic. The love story is super funny, cute, cheesy in all the right ways, and incredibly swoon-worthy. Tired of adjectives? ‘Cause I could totally keep going…
It is obviously a Cinderella retelling, so if you like retellings, this is one you cannot miss. It gives its own spin to the classic tale but with very well placed points and references to it that will bring a smile to your face.
But more than fairy tales, this book is for everyone who has been in a fandom -whatever fandom that may be. This is for all the people who have been fangirls or fanboys, who have an immense passion and love for whatever stories that get them obsessed. It is for us to be seen and not feel alone.. for us to daydream and geek out a little more.
Also, I never thought it was possible to cry with an acknowledgments section in a book before but I cannot highlight the acknowledgments of Geekerella enough. I cried and I felt so many emotions that made me so grateful to Ashley Poston for writing all this.
I highly recommend the sequel novella that you can find in Ashley’s website because it is a great and very realistic continuation of the romance of these two characters that I never want to say goodbye to.
Asis is a Mexican girl whose life changed at the age of six when her father read the first chapter of Harry Potter to her. Ever since that night, the book world sucked her in and she’s never been seen amongst mortals again.
