Raised from childhood to be weapons, Sentinels spend their lives fighting the monsters that prey upon humanity. Their hands will shape the world, and their swords will seal its fate.
As war looms, Sentinel Branwyn seeks military aid from the High Council, attracting interest from its youngest member, Zelen Varengir. He's intrigued by Branwyn but can't risk helping her cause. Instead, he must learn all he can about the intriguing newcomer—especially who's behind framing her for the murder of the High Lord and threatening to tear apart the world as they know it...
I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
This book had a strong prologue and introduced the main plot of the series but I had a hard time getting past the first 20% of the book. I felt like it dragged on a little, but after it the book picked up very fast.
It follows the events of the first book in this series. Sentinel Branwyn, a character introduced in the first book of The Stormbringer Series.
Branwyn has been sent to Heliodar in a diplomatic mission to plead for military help against the rise of presumed dead Thyran, the leader of the supernatural army of the Traitor God.
Except for Zelen Verengir, the high council of Heliodar is reluctant to aid a war that is far away from them. But Zelen, although understanding the threat of Thyran, can’t do much due to his controlling family. And they demand that he gets to know Branwyn and her motives.
Zelen and Branwyn start spending time together and it was great to see the friendship and camaraderie between them. They have this connection, they get each other and they respect one another. For the first time, Branwyn felt like she has found a man that she could trust to protect her back.
The romance blooms really slow, a kiss here, a touch there. I’m not a slow burn romance fan, but it was a great change of pace to read it this time.
Everything seems to be working well between them when the first twist happens. A High Lord and his wife are murdered and Branwyn is framed as the culprit.
Will Zelen help her clear her name and find the real perpetrator? Or will he turn her in?
If you are looking for a book filled with politics, a great world building and two fantastic characters, look no further. Once you get into the writing, you will love it.
There were a few plot twists that I didn’t see coming, and it kept me at the edge of my seat, which added to the experience.
The side characters were few but great. You won’t see who the real villain is and I just love that it wasn’t too predictable.
Overall it was a great read, the book was short and light. You can read it as a standalone, but for better understanding of this magical world I would suggest reading The Stormbringer first.
Hello there. I am Faiza and also a night owl. If you text me at 3am I’ll reply because I’ll probaby be reading. I am also a certified introvert.
I love animals. If I did not live in an apartment, I’d have all kinds of pets. But that’s not the case, so I have a Parrot, his name is Thor.
I love all kinds of fiction books, but High Fantasy and Dark Romance are my turf. I can’t wait to share with y’all my thoughts and love for books.
