She is the eye of the storm
I received this book for free from Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I’ve been not-so-patiently waiting for the next book in this series for quite some time, and of course, I dived into it the second the ARC landed in my inbox. I’m happy to report that Jen remains absolutely untouched by the “I nail the first books in the series, and it goes downhill from there” phenomenon. I don’t know how she does it, but her books get better and better every. single. time. I don’t know what to tell you except clear your schedule, get some coffee, get tissues (yes, you read that correctly), and let’s go.
Jen stays true to her well-balanced action, slow-burn romance, angst, and humor mix that we all know and love. In typical Jennifer L. Armentrout fashion – everything you thought you knew gets thrown right out the window, ensuring your commitment to reading the damn book as fast as possible. You won’t have another choice. As usual, Jen takes the time to walk us through this corner of the world she’s built, introducing new and beloved old characters to the story as she goes.
While Evie slowly comes to terms with the power she now holds, learns to control her abilities (with Luc’s help, of course), and uncovers more pieces of a seemingly endless puzzle, the situation on the outside takes a turn for the worse. There’s a war brewing. They all know it, and they need to be ready. Her character development kicked-off the second she found out about her past, hasn’t slowed down since, and it won’t anytime soon. She’s one badass lady. And Luc is, well he’s Luc. And I think that’s all I need to say on the matter. He stole my heart in the Darkest Star faster than I could say llama, and after reading this one, I know I won’t ever get it back. The romance is on point. Their relationship continues to grow and evolve, accompanied by heart-stopping kisses, teasing, tears, passion, and steamy encounters that will make you melt like a freaking chocolate sundae in tropical weather.
Some say returning to a book series you love is like coming home after being gone for far too long, and that’s exactly how it felt. If you read the previous books in the series, continuing is a no brainer. I loved every second of it and seriously had to fight back the tears a time or two. And there might have been big ugly tears at the end. Fair warning – cliffhanger alarm, and I’m pretty sure that part of me died right there, so brace yourselves, ladies and gentlemen.
Hi! I’m Lisa. I’m twenty-three, a college student and a book lover. I spend every free minute, and most of my lectures, reading all kinds of books, which is how I ended up here. While I particularly enjoy books of the young and new adult variety, I also love historical fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal, all things romance, and one or the other classic as well. If I’m not reading, I’m either working, sleeping, binge-watching my newest obsession on Netflix, or on my way to Starbucks, to satisfy my slight caffeine addiction.
