His kiss was fire and passion. She shivered, wondering how he knew just how to touch her, to send her spiraling into an abyss of pleasure…
For centuries, the Dragon Kings have lived among mortals, forsaking their true selves. But for Kelton, hiding in the realm of shadows—and existing only in the world of dreams—is no longer an option. A human woman claims to know that he, like other dark warriors of his kind, is real. That the legends about these powerful, seductive men with hearts ablaze are true. And that, with just one embrace, Kelton could destroy her…or love her until the end of time.
Bernadette Davies is an anthropologist who knows better than to fall into the arms of a Dragon King. But how can she resist Kelton when he’s so willing to share his secrets and bear his soul? He hasn’t met a beautiful, trustworthy woman like Bernadette in…forever. But once they give into their mutual desire, their worlds will never be the same. Soon Bernadette must face her dilemma: Should she expose the truth about Kelton in the name of science? Or join him in his battle with the dark forces—in the name of love?
I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
The biggest thing to know before going into this book is that this is #16 in the Dark Kings Series and #38 in the Dark World Series. Buuuuuut here’s the thing, you don’t absolutely have to read every single book in the series before reading this specific one, but it does help. Donna Grant does a good job in summarizing the world we are diving headfirst into, making sure we get a good enough idea as to the dynamics and who the good guys are and who we’re against. However, I feel that if you do read the other books you will feel fully connected to the entire story, the couples (the dragons and their mates), and what the war everyone is preparing for is exactly.
Let’s get into it. . . .
Each book in the Dark Kings Series focuses usually on a specific Dragon King and their journey in finding their mate. In this specific book, we get to know Keltan and Bernadette Davies—who is trying to expose the Dragon Kings and the world they have kept hidden for centuries—and discovering an obvious attraction that Keltan wants to keep buried along with the idea of ever wanting a mate.
Donna Grant does a great job in catching up those who have not read any of her other books before, but it does get to the point where we end up feeling as if we’re living in only the past without ever getting much action until the very end. The book overall felt magical and she did an amazing job in her world-building, including the different kind of magical beings and what certain beings could do and what others couldn’t. It did get overwhelming and confusing, and it did feel that at some points we were focusing on so much that we would forget the current predicament, and so when the final battle did arrive it didn’t fully live up to the expectations I had for it.
The buildup and the stakes of winning the war that Usaeil was planning and leading up to felt dramatic, as if the final battle would be FILLED with chaos and be amazing, but that is where I felt let down. Moments that should have been big reveals and made me gasp, didn’t. Maybe it was because it was something small and essentially leading up to something else but I was in need of more.
In terms of Keltan and Bernadette, I liked their dynamic. Their romance was steamy and the way their characters worked felt realistic and I liked them together. It felt a bit rushed but at the end of the day I enjoyed reading their chapters and getting to see them fall for each other.
There’s also something about those Dragon Kings and the way they speak in the book because my mind could just imagine the way those men look and their accents cause girl. . .
All in all, Fever is a great book with great writing. If it is a book that you have been absolutely dying to read and have been part of the entire journey since earlier books, then you are absolutely going to love it. If you are a new reader and wanting to start on a new quest filled with sexy Dragon Kings and magic, then you will love it and want to be part of this world even more. I am excited to continue to read Donna Grant’s books (future and past ones) and I am ready to continue on this journey and fall in love with more Dragon Kings.
I’m sorry but there’s just something about those Dragon Kings.
