Things get textual when a steamy message from a random wrong number turns into a thrilling anonymous relationship in this hilarious rom-com by Lynn Painter.
Bad luck has always followed Olivia Marshall...or maybe she's just the screw-up her family thinks she is. But when a "What are you wearing?" text from a random wrong number turns into the hottest, most entertaining—albeit anonymous—relationship of her life, she thinks things might be on the upswing....
Colin Beck has always considered Olivia his best friend's annoying little sister, but when she moves in with them after one of her worst runs of luck, he realizes she's turned into an altogether different and sexier distraction. He's sure he can keep his distance, until the moment he discovers she's the irresistible Miss Misdial he's been sort of sexting for weeks—and now he has to decide whether to turn the heat up or ghost her before things get messy.
I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
This book was so much fun to read, and I found myself unable to put it down. When reading the synopsis, I could tell that this book would be fun, witty and full of romance.
Olivia—our main character—caught me by surprise. There have been several times when I have read a book with a quirky main character that would usually fall flat. Olivia, however, was incredibly endearing and she was genuinely hilarious and had a personality that I adored. Her clumsiness was not a continuing running joke within the book—as I have seen in other books—but instead, this trait of Olivia’s helped unearth pieces of her character to not only readers but Colin as well.
Colin was a swoon-worthy love interest, described to look as Ryan Gosling in a suit. Think: Crazy, Stupid, Love.
I always enjoy a good duo POV, and having the opportunity to be in Colin’s perspective as he found out that Olivia was his mystery texter was a definite treat. Their banter and arguments were funny and had me laughing out loud at times, but their heartfelt moments truly had me swooning as well. From the start, Colin sees Olivia as his best friend’s annoying younger sister, so it was fun to see his perspective change as he got to know her as Miss Misdial and see her wit, insults and perception of life in a new light. I also genuinely enjoyed Colin as a character period, and Olivia brought out the best in him.
The characters and romance were the biggest successes for me, while the pacing and conflicts seemed to drag just a tiny bit at times. It is also important to note that the steamy scenes were more of a fade-to-black, and while I didn’t necessarily mind this choice, it is something to be aware of going into the book. Overall, this book was fun and lighthearted, and easily something to read over the weekend when you’re looking for something to binge read.
I’m going to leave this review off with one of my favorite quotes from this book that describes why Olivia is such a treat to read. Happy reading! ((:
You aren’t a hot mess at all, Livvie. You’re just this. . .this. . .human tornado who is so alive, so filled with the energy of the moment, that there occasionally is a little collateral damage.
