[Emily’s Review]: Mad World by Hannah McBride

I’m Madison.
I spent the last seventeen years in a trailer with my mom as she rolled from one addiction to the next. All I wanted was to survive high school and get out of this place. Finding out I had a long lost twin sister on the other side of the country seemed like something out of a movie.

Too bad I didn’t realize it was a horror movie.

Now I’m Madelaine.
We were only supposed to switch lives for a summer. But then the unthinkable happened and now I have the chance to be my twin for the rest of my life. I get the fancy house, the rich father, and the elite school.

But all of those things come with a price I don’t think I can afford.

Maybe taking over my dead twin sister’s life isn’t as easy as I thought it would be.

Mad World is the first book in a new series by Hannah McBride . It contains dark themes (including bullying, drugs, and mentions of past/implied assault) that may be triggering for some readers.

[Diane’s Review]: Dark and Shallow Lies by Ginny Myers Sain

Gripping mystery against an eerie backdrop. Dark and Shallow LIes took my on quite the ride. Ginny’s vivid description of life in a remote bayou town paints the perfect backing for this twisted tale. Normally I’m not one to read YA mysteries as I don’t find them overly compelling, but this one sucked me right […]

[Diane’s Review]: The Last Beautiful Girl by Nina Laurin

Perfect for fans of Black Mirror! What starts out as your typical “teenage girl moves to a new town outside of the city” quickly morphs into a suspenseful story of social media and the unceasing urge to remain relevant. The Last Beautiful Girl accurately depicts the struggle of competing for popularity and individuality in a […]

[Portia’s Review]: The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix

Grady Hendricks never fails to mix horror and some comedy together, and I absolutely love that. I also love the entire Final Girls concept, so anything related to final girls and I am THERE. I love horror, all types, and love love love series with a good final girl. (Nancy and Sydney are my top […]

[Emily’s Review]: The Girl in the Headlines by Hannah Jayne

The first page, heck the first chapter of this book was super intense. WHAT A HOOK! I was somewhat let down after that first chapter. The Girl in the Headlines had so so so much potential. The blurb sounds like a true crime lover’s dream. But actually it was a true crime lover’s nightmare. There […]

[Portia’s Review: Foul Is Fair by Hannah Capin (Foul Is Fair #1) [ Blog Tour]

I’m going into this review feeling very conflicted about this book. Based on the synopsis, I was hooked. I The only thing I might love more than a good retelling is a revenge plot. Seems like a recipe for success. But this didn’t quite hit the mark for me. ALSO: SUPER TRIGGER WARNINGS ! the […]

[Portia’s Review]: The Wives by Tarryn Fisher

The final book of the year for me in 2019 was The Wives by Tarryn Fisher. I really have a love/hate relationship with her books. Well, I guess I dont entirely HATE any of them, but some are just… meh, for me (Mud Vein is still my fave by her). So because of the back […]
